An Insight Into the Driving Experience

Hello readers!

Mutlow's School of Motoring: http://www.mutlows.com

If you live in the Harlow area and are looking for a driving instructor you can contact mine directly, I would definitely recommend him. His name is Matt and his number is 07795323394.

When my birthday came I was so nervous. Some people seem to have a clue about cars and how they worked, but I was not one of those people. I knew NOTHING about cars! My driving instructor relaxed me as he was quite outgoing and chatty, which was a good thing because I'm quite shy! Especially around new people. We went to the North Weald Air Field, as there is a road there which is quiet. He explained the car controls and then it was my chance to sit in the drivers seat, something I had never done before! I done a few laps and learnt how to get around roundabouts, not as easy as it looks I may add! My lesson lasted 2 hours as this is what I chose, it went really quickly!

I think you just have to learn to believe in yourself and relax! With the driving instructor with you, nothing bad is going to happen! They have peddles on the passengers side, so they can help if needed. You will have good and bad lessons. Some, where you may make more mistakes than others. I think a good way to look at it is that, you are always moving forward. Every lesson you are progressing and learning new things! I have realised it takes a lot of time and practice!

On my first lesson I got given a booklet where my instructor wrote down when my lesson was and when my next one was going to be, as well as how much I had paid. He also included some notes on what I had learnt in my lesson which is helpful as I can look back on my notes and refresh my mind before my next lesson. I have had 6 hours of driving so far and on my last lesson I managed to drive myself home, which I thought was quite an achievement for someone who 6 hours worth of lessons ago didn't know a thing about a car!

As well as the practical side of driving, you also need to take a theory test which must be passed before you can book your practical test. I am currently trying to revise for my theory which I have recently booked! I downloaded The Official DSA Theory Test Kit on my iPhone which cost me £4.99. I find this useful as it includes ways to study, practice and revise all possible topics that may come up in the test. It also allows you to take a mock test which gets you used to answering different questions. All questions are multiple choice. The other part of the theory test is the Hazard Perception Test. This involves watching 14 different visual clips and clicking when you see a hazard arise. The quicker you notice the hazard the higher your score will be. You need to score 43/50 on the test and get a score of 44/75 on The Hazard Perception Test to successfully pass the theory test.

I also picked up the PC version of the DSA Theory Test which doesn't include the Hazard Perception Test. I purchased this from WHSmiths for £11.32.

Driving is very expensive. You need a provisional license which is £50, money to be able to pay for the lessons each week - how much you spend depends on how quickly you learn, the theory test which costs £31 and the practical test which costs £62. As I have a job I am paying for this myself. I would recommend making sure you have the money and not rushing into it.
