Making a House a Home

Hello readers!

After recently moving house, my family and I are finally starting to settle in and get used to our new home. I'm sure most of you have in some way shape or form experienced the stress and pressure that comes with moving. The joys of packing everything up and getting rid of old things ready for the new!

After tears and arguments along the way it's definitely all worth it in the end, especially with family support and everyone sticking together!

Here are my 5 tips on how I think you can make a house a home:

1) I think that it's important to be happy with the house you're moving into/the area. If you're happy with what you see, you're more likely to want to give the house the love and attention it needs in order to turn it into a home. Inject your personality into it, it's not always about having loads of money to splash out at once, build upon what you have - it's the little things, you'll get there in the end!

2) FLOWERS! I personally love flowers and lots of them! You can pick some up for as little as £2 and I think they really add something to a room! You can buy a few different bunches and mix and match your favourites to make the perfect display piece for your chosen room. They can also add colour, or tye into a colour scheme in your bedroom for example!

have been loving flower jugs recently - especially this one which I found on the House of Frazer website for £20!

3) Trinkets/small little homely things that add a little something extra to an empty space. I have been loving Next recently for little homely bits that are not too expensive!

Here are a few things I've been loving:

Home Sense (part of TK Maxx) is also a great place to find inexpensive and unique bits and bobs to make the house feel a lot more homely! You sadly can't order online, but there are lots of shops around so check out a store that may be near you! http://www.homesense.com

4) Candles! Everyone loves a good candle right? My favourite brand is Yankee Candle, as I feel they have a good buring time, great value for money and have an array of different scents to suit everyone!

5) Photos! I think that different photos of all your favourite memories with friends and family definitely adds a sense of homeliness to what can feel like just a house. It could be a picture of anything, make it personal to you, something that makes you happy and brings positive thoughts! You can get photos developed for next to nothing these days from places like Boots and Asda.

I really like these magnetic double sided photo frames from Muji: http://www.muji.eu/pages/online.asp?Sec=7&Sub=35&PID=5611
