Hello readers!
It all started when I was at work, the later part of last year. My eyes used to water and hurt. It's hard to explain, but you know when you're really tired and you look at a bright light like your phone or T.V. - that's how they would feel all the time. I thought it was the lighting at work that was affecting my eyes, not my eyes that were the problem so I thought nothing of it and just got on with it.
Back in February I had a driving test. Before you take your test you have to be able to read a car number plate from 20 metres before your test starts. Well, before going into the test centre my driving instructor checked to see if I could read the number plate of a car across the road and I couldn't read it - not what you need when you're already nervous! Also, whilst having lessons I didn't seem to have a problem reading signs or anything which was weird and so it came as a shock! Luckily my instructor told me the registration number and I managed to remember it for my actual test, but I failed anyway (damn).
I decided to take a break from driving as I can drive, I just need to pass the test and also I was due to move house and knew I would be busy! I put off getting an eye test for a good few months after the driving incident. Mainly because I was embarrassed, I used to get anxious thinking about this experience of having an eye test from a made up story I had come up with in my head! Anyway, as I have moved house and everything I decided that I really need to get into driving again so that I can pass my driving test, but to do so I had to take an eye test and get my eyes sorted first!
I decided to take an eye test at Specsavers for a cost of £20. I booked an appointment over the phone. When I arrived they took pictures of the inside of my eye and I also had to look at a picture of a hot air ballon in the distance, the focus of the picture changed and then they would take a picture. I then had to wait to been seen by an optition, who asked me a few questions and got me to read out different size letters with each eye and also with these funny glasses on! The optition put different lenses in these glasses, whilst I was looking at some dots at a screen and through this he was able to see what glasses would be right for me. I was told that my eye sight was really bad, that I was short sighted and that I had to wear glasses all the time!
After finding this out, I had to choose a pair of glasses which would get made to fit my needs so that I would see things better! I decided to go for the Lille pair, as they were cheap and I knew I wanted to invest in a better pair when I get paid. They take a week before you can go and pick them up in store. I also wanted to look at getting some contact lenses because I just knew that glasses wouldn't suit me at all!
I guess the whole point of me writing this post was to try and encourage any of you reading to go and get your eyes tested! For most it's free (if you're 16 and under or if you're in full time education) so there is no excuse! If you do have to pay its only £20 and you can't put a price on being able to see! The whole test is painless and only lasts 30 minutes. The last eye test I had was back in primary school - over 10 years ago! Maybe if I had of gone to have regular eye tests, then something could have been done sooner! You only get one set of eyes and you have to look after them. Even if you don't have symptoms, like headaches, watery eyes and blurred vision, still get them checked!
I pick up my glasses soon, so I might do a follow up post on how I get on with them and how I get on with contact lenses if you'd be interested. I will be experimenting with different make up looks too so will hopefully be able to share some tips with you in the near future.
Let me know in the comment section if there is anything you would like me to post about :)
Thankyou for reading!
