The Hits, The Misses and The Maybes - Places to Eat Out

Hello readers!

As I've grown up in Harlow my whole life, I have experienced many different foods and restaurants surrounding the area. I thought I would write about a few different places and hopefully give you some inspiration on where to and not to eat out if you live in and around the Harlow area.

(Some places can be found all over the UK and other parts of the world - Check out a restaurant near you).

1) Frankie and Benny's

This restaurant opened fairly recently in The Water Gardens at the Harlow town centre. I was quite reluctant to try it at first, as the menu seemed more like food you could have at home for probably half the cost! I had heard a lot of people say how nice the food was and I recently decided to bite the bullet and give it a try!

I took my two sisters along with me. The service seemed slow at first, but I have to admit the place was quite busy at the time we went, but once we had ordered our food we wasn't waiting long at all!

I went for garlic bread to share as a starter:

A BLT toasted wrap, served with coleslaw and chips as the main course:

Finished with the famous Frankie and Benny's cinnamon waffle, topped with honeycomb pieces and ice-cream to share:

Overall, I was very impressed with the food, everything was nicely cooked and flavoured. The portion size was very reasonable for the price and the customer service was excellent! I can now see what all the fuss was about!

Frankie and Benny's have a lot to offer, from wraps and burgers, to spaghetti bolognase and a good ol' steak. They're known best for their different flavoured waffles, which the waiter recommended to us and I have to agree it was amazingly good!

For three people to share a starter, have a main course each and share a dessert it cost just under £30 which I thought was quite reasonable as this also included our drinks (buy one drink, the rest unlimited).

Hit? Miss? Maybe?

Definitely a hit!

2) Harlow Mill Beefeater

This beefeater in Harlow Mill is well know for its variety of steaks and meat dishes from ribs to beef filled ciabattas! My first experience at this restaurant was for my birthday quite recently. I have wanted to go to a steak house/beefeater for a while, but as we all know steak can be quite pricey!

I went for sirloin steak, served with mushroom, chips, tomato and a side salad as a main course:

Finished with warm chocolate brownie, served with ice-cream for dessert:

I can honestly say it was the nicest steak I have ever had. I had mine cooked well done and it was delicious - moist and full of flavour. The dessert was also amazing, of course. What's not to like about warm brownie and ice-cream together?

For my whole family to have a steak meal and dessert it cost around £40 which is quite expensive for some, but resonable as my family's food is included in the price as well as our drinks! I would definitely like to go back again soon!

Hit? Miss? Maybe?

HIT!

3) Nandos

I have had Nandos on a couple of occasions now. The closest one to me is at the Harlow town centre. Nandos is well known for its good quality chicken. Cooked and served in different ways! Everyone goes crazy about Nandos and is obsessed, however I didn't really get the hype after trying it the first time as I wasn't a big fan of the piri piri sauce! I later discovered that Nandos do delivery and decided to give it another go as well as treating my family to dinner!

The service over all was good. All you have to do is select the food you want to order through the Nandos app and order it to your closest restruant. Also you don't have to have your chicken cooked in piri piri sauce, you can choose to have lemon and herb or mango and lime flavouring. If you like piri piri sauce can choose the level of heat your chicken will have!

I had plain-ish chicken wrap, with 2 sides of chips and corn on the cob for the main course:

I really enjoyed my meal, the chicken was very moist and well seasoned! However, my corn on the cob was quite hard and seemed to be undercooked.

For 4 of us to have a main meal each it cost around £40 which is quite expensive, considering that doesn't include a starter, drinks or a dessert. If you're eating alone or maybe with a friend I guess £10 roughly for a meal isn't bad as you get quite alot of food for your money and it's good quality too!

Hit? Miss? Maybe?

Hmm, I'm going to have to say maybe!

4) Pizza Express

Pizza Express is at the Water Gardens at the Harlow town centre. We decided to go for a birthday meal back in the summer as none of my family had been to Pizza Express before! The restruant is well known for its proper Italian pizzas and my family and I were interested to if our meal would live up to our expectations.

I went for garlic bread as a starter to share:

Sloppy giuseppe pizza as a main course:

Finishing with a brownie sundae for dessert:

I wasn't keen on the garlic bread, the pizza had a nice flavour, but to me it seemed to be missing something! I really enjoyed the dessert, but I wasn't happy with the service as the waiters were always too busy and wasn't easy to get hold of when we needed them!

For my family and I to share a starter and have a pizza and dessert each, it cost around £50 which I think is crazy considering the meal wasn't worth such an expensive amount! I wouldn't go back again!

Hit? Miss? Maybe?

Sadly, a miss from me!

5) Toby Carvery

Toby Carvery is found near to the Harlow train station, serving a variety of different meat all you can eat roast dinners for around £7 a plate. For me, a toby carvery is where you would go for a typical roast on a Sunday - with the joy of not having to do any washing up! What a bonus!

I went for a beef all you can eat Carvery with a Yorkshire pudding and a variety of other trimmings which you can help yourself to as much or as little as you want:

Finished with ice-cream and a flake for dessert:

On the occasions I have had a toby roast, I haven't been 100% satisfied with the food. I mean don't get me wrong, if you like fatty meat, black potatoes and hard vegetables then Toby is definitely the place for you! The desserts aren't too bad though!

Still, I find myself eating it every now and again. Even if I don't eat the majority of what's on my plate. The place has a nice vibe and good customer service!

For my friend and I to have a meal and dessert each as well as a glass of wine it cost us just £20 which I thought was quite reaonable and a cheap meal out. It's a shame the food wasn't better!

Hit? Miss? Maybe?

It's going to have to be a miss!

Obviously prices vary depending on how many of you are eating, what you order and your drinks! But hopefully this has given you a rough guide and an insite into new places to try when you next go put for a meal!
